M is for Magic is a wonderful collection of short stories for children (older children or brave young children!) about ghosts, trolls and more other-wordly beings. One of the short stories is an excerpt from the later published ‘Graveyard book’ (well worth a read). Another involves a gumshoe style fable of fairytale proportions with a few ‘killer’ twists in the tale. Neil Gaiman weaves stories out of the everyday with elements of magic and fairytale to great effect. I would highly recommend this for adults and children alike, although you may want to read through this first, before reading it to your child (as some of the stories are quite dark).
