The Maze Runner is set in the future, and is largely played out in an inescapable maze haunted by grotesque malformations of beast and machine. We follow the protagonist Thomas as he explores this new land meeting a series of interesting characters and increasingly complex mysteries which he hopes will help him solve the mystery of the maze and eventually escape.
Throughout the book there are lots of different twists and turns (some much more obvious than others) and the ending is perfectly written to hook you in to the next book in the series (there are four altogether). I read this quite quickly and enjoyed it, as a light easy read. If you’re aiming for realism this book is definitely not for you. However, for those of you that like escapist, futuristic fantasy style adventures, I’d give this a go.
